ALBUM REVIEW
The 1999 album is one of Prince’s most danceable masterpieces, anchored by punchy synthesizers, infectious percussive beats and catchy lyrics. The multi-instrumentalist’s title track is one of the best off the album and became the anthem for a new millennium. That classic number is followed by "Little Red Corvette," the highest charting single from this album, and rivaling "1999" in importance, career-wise. Using a hot red car as a metaphor for red hot lovemaking (prior to the AIDS epidemic), the tune works tremendously well with its Lisa and Dez co-lead vocal contributions. The 1999 album propelled Prince from a darling of the critics to a bestselling entertainer and its artistry still holds up to any albums released today.
