Mott The Hoople - All the Young Dudes Album

With help from David Bowie, Mott the Hoople uncorked an unqualified winner with the All The Young Dudes album. The band’s rendition of Lou Reed’s “Sweet Jane” is reason enough to listen to this album, but other great songs follow including the Bowie song “All The Young Dudes,” which hit the top 30 in the United States, and a hard-rocking self-composed track, “Momma’s Little Jewel.” Overall the album is a minor gem full of cleverly written songs, some by Bowie, Lou Reed and Mott members Ian Hunter, Mick Ralphs, Verdon Allen and Overend Watts. This disc represents a more mature Mott than, say their previous releases. The changes in the band’s lineup really worked to bring the remaining members’ talent to the foreground.
