Lucinda Williams - Car Wheels on a Gravel Road Album

There were lofty expectations for the Car Wheels on a Gravel Road album by Lucinda Williams and happily it lives up to these largely because of Williams’ honest and direct songwriting and her unpretentious vocals. One of the best tracks is "Jackson" - an extraordinarily beautiful song about driving through the South and recalling an old lover. "Lake Charles" is another interesting song, with a nice, under-stated zydeco feel and dobro guitar. Anyone who has lived in the Deep South will be able to relate to this CD, but even if you don’t it’s just an incredibly appealing travelogue of Lucinda’s memories.
