Catapulting Green Day to the top of the pop charts, the Dookie album is a groundbreaking offering from the San Francisco Bay area trio, who put '70s and '80s punk in a compact '90s package showed that alternative bands could have a sense of humor. Undoubtedly, everyone remembers "Longview," "Basket Case," and "When I Come Around" as these songs and videos were played around the clock on the radio and MTV, earning them diamond status. "Longview" was their first single off of the record, and a major hit, thanks to its raw bass line, driving guitar, bold attitude, and catchy melody. But most of the other songs on this disc are equally spirited. They don't' make grunge like this anymore.
