It’s hard to pick a favorite on
the Dummy album by
Portishead each of the tunes fits a particular mood. The predominant tone is dark and haunting like the memory of an old friend or a place you visited in your youth. Some of the tunes are sensual (“Numb,” “Pedestal), while others are mournful (“Biscuit,” “
Sour Times”) and still others are just plan mysterious (“Mysterions” and “Strangers.”) With Beth Gibbons’ beautiful vocals and Geoff Barrow’s musical genius, the tunes also seam ageless and appropriate for any musical era. “Dummy” tracks have been heard in several movies, proving that it is one of the most influential albums of all time.
