Originally released to so-so reviews in 1968, the Electric Ladyland album actually features a Jimi Hendrix bubbling over with ideas and energy and using his guitar to record some of the most eclectic tunes that any one album could possibly contain. There’s sizzling blues ("Voodoo Chile"), monumental space jams ("1983... A Merman I Should Turn to Be"), psychedelic soul ("Crosstown Traffic"), and hell-bent rock ("Voodoo Child (Slight Return)"). And of course there was Hendrix’s biggest hit-- a reading of Bob Dylan’s “All Along the Watchtower”-- with some of the finest guitar licks ever performed.
