Elton John - Elton John Album

Elton John's self-titled second effort, the Elton John album was what first brought the English sensation to the attention of American audiences. T his follow-up album to Empty Sky gave us the essentials of what Elton John and Bernie Taupin were all about-- insanely-catchy melodies and the type of intelligent lyrics pop music hadn't seen the like of since the arrival of Bob Dylan (who was a huge influence on the duo). Of course everyone knows the megahit "Your Song", but the album contains others that would become Elton John classics, ranging from "The Cage,” a funky rocker to "Take Me to the Pilot" and "The Border Song" with their soulful gospel influences. The album has an almost experimental feel to it and you can tell it was great fun to record. In all it’s an excellent beginning to what would be the Elton John legacy.
