Liz Phair - Exile in Guyville Album

Named the Rolling Stone Album of the Year, Liz Phair’s Exile in Guyville album is simply one of the best rock CDs to come out of the nineties. This is a pared-down minimalist exercise that lets the music do the talking. Phair’s lyrics amount to word paintings that are as vivid as anything Patti Smith came up with and as cutting and incisive as Tracey Chapman’s songs. Her weary-sounding voice has undertones of strength and defiance that every single woman should applaud. Standouts include "Divorce Song" about how breakups really feel, and "Soap Star Joe," which casts a suspicious eye at the guys who cruise the single scene. All in all a must listen for singer/songwriter fans.
