Sly & The Family Stone - Fresh Album

The Fresh album was exactly that—a departure for Sly and the Family Stone into the sunny optimism that was missing from their previous release. All of the tracks are loose and funky and sound like Sly and the band had a great deal of fun recording them. The opening tune, "In Time," for instance, is an electrifying, funk groove with catchy and sophisticated rhythms. It's really positive lyrically and musically. The song is mainly Sly saying things happen when they are supposed to happen. Another standout is "If You Want Me To Stay,” an apology from Sly to his fans for letting them down. Sadly, it was Sly Stone's last number one hit. For that reason alone, the album deserves a listen.
