Guitar Town Album Review
Steve Earle broke through as a talented country/rock songwriter with his 1986 debut Guitar Town album, which was equal parts Bruce Springsteen’s yearning-to-be-free-of-small-town-life rock and the country/folk sounds of Townes Van Zandt. Earl writes about irresponsibility, about separation by choice and about the journeys of a man who searches for something he will never be able to find. Steve Earle's troubles are well-known and rather unimportant to note. With his many great albums behind him, it is important to take notice of Guitar Town, a terrific disc filled with an assortment of styles and the kernel of all the things Earle still seems to represent.
