Derek & The Dominos - Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs Album

Standing as a pillar of classic rock, the Layla album is a product of Eric Clapton’s tortured psyche after he fell in love with the wife of his best friend (George Harrison). It seems that romantic anguish is what inspired Clapton to write all of the interconnected songs on this album, but whatever the inspiration the vocals and guitar-playing are top notch Clapton (with the accompaniment of Duane Allman). Besides “Layla,” there’s “Bell Bottom Blues” which recalls Clapton’s infamous heroin ultimatum to Patti that he’ll use if she doesn’t take him back. Clapton ultimately won his true love but then divorced her. Rock justice?
