ALBUM REVIEW
In the Live Through This album, Hole unleashes Courtney Love’s fury at the world. Her musical point is that it’s unacceptable to expect women to be both sex goddesses and unblemished mothers. Courtney’s recipe is a mixture of punk and metal wrapped in pleasing pop melodies. It would be hard not to believe these songs were a reaction to the death of Kurt Cobain, Courtney’s husband, but actually the disc was recorded before the grunge icon’s suicide. Standout tracks include "Doll Parts,” an emotional and dark ballad that is one of Hole's most recognizable songs with Courtney comparing herself to a doll and “Rock Star,” Courtney's tribute to growing up in Olympia, Washington. Hole might have broken up relatively early, but their impact remains.
