Funkadelic - Maggot Brain Album

The Maggot Brain album catches Funkadelic in its early prime and blends George Clinton's wry, sober lyrics about poverty, race relations, and drug use with Eddie Hazel's Hendrix-inspired theatrics on the guitar. Musically, the band is all over the place and goes from smooth soul to heavy rock to abstract psychedelia and funk without much notice, which is I guess what made this album so revolutionary. The first single, "Maggot Brain," is reflective of the rest of the album as it shifts from blues to some kind of depressing acid trip, with a great guitar solo. That Funkadelic was such a success at fusing such disparate elements is reason enough to own the album.
