Smashing Pumpkins - Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness Album

The Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness album avoids the pitfalls of many double albums in that most of them have a lot of filler in between a few great songs—all of the tunes on this album stand as great anthems to Generation X. Billy Corgan writes some pretty depressing songs (“Dawn to Dusk,” Take Me Down”), but still has hope for the future of love and life in general. His themes are epic and ambitious, but he takes more emotional risks than most other rockers would and that makes for an album that is as profound as it is eclectic. If you want to know what young people were thinking about at the turn of the new millennium, Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness is the perfect album to have.
