The Muddy Waters at Newport 1960 album is a live recording that inspired such stellar bluesmen and rock and rollers as Eric Clapton, Steve Winwood, Keith Richards and Eric Page. Recorded at the 1960 Newport Jazz Festival, the album features Muddy backed by the great James Cotton on harmonica, the phenomenal Otis Spann on piano, Pat Hare on rhythm guitar, bassist Andrew Stevenson, and drummer Francis Clay. The performances are straight ahead Chicago-flavored Delta blues highlighted by a fiery take and reprise of Muddy's set closer "I've Got My Mojo Working". Listening to the crowd on this album, it sounds like Muddy nearly brought the house down before he even finished playing. This is tribute enough to his greatness.
