LaBelle - Nightbirds Album

On 1974's Nightbirds album Patti, Nona and Sarah made it clear that when it came to sweaty New Orleans R&B and funk they were the undisputed female champions." Lady Marmalade" was of course Labelle's big breakthrough single and likely what they'll always be remembered for, but the trio also delivered several other funky tunes in a similar vein such as "Don't Bring me Down," "All Girl Band" and "Somebody Somewhere." From Patti's killer vocals to Alen Toussaint's organ and horn heavy arrangements, these girls truly gave it their all. Funk doesn't get much better than this. It's a great place to introduce yourself to LaBelle.
