Jane's Addiction - Nothing's Shocking Album

The Nothing's Shocking album is the disc that raised the bar for alternative music performers everywhere. Jane’s Addiction came from LA and their grunge musings effectively combined the sounds of 70s arena rock with a punk sensibility and a post-punk feel, adding Perry Farrell's obtuse and often dense lyrics on top of it. While the band would meet greater commercial success with its next release-- "Ritual de lo Habitual"-- with its controversial artwork and its hit single, this is in my assessment the better album, and the benchmark for alternative music since. It’s a testament to Jane's Addiction that few records have been able to match the creativity evinced on this one.
