Brian Wilson’s high class production and stellar songwriting skills take center stage on
the “Pet Sounds” album. This is
the Beach Boys at their best and most technically proficient. It is miles away from the ‘fun in the sun’ attitude the Boys took on their earlier albums. Some of the highlights of the Pet Sounds album include "Don't Talk (Put Your Head On My Shoulder),” a dreamy piece with exceptionally moving and beautiful lyrics and "
God Only Knows",” which contains subtle instrumental layers behind a chorus that tantalizes the listener until the harmonies kick in at the end in a marvelous climax. It may not be the best pop album of all time, but Pet Sounds is surely up there.
