PJ Harvey - Rid of Me Album

With a ferocious rock and roll assault, PJ Harvey demands a place for herself at the table with the Rid of Me album. Her theme is sexuality and whether she’s writing about a hysterical female in “You Make Me Dry” or male dominance in “Man Size,” she comes across as a skilled songwriter who is not afraid to go out on a limb to make her point. Just listen to her amped-up version of Dylan’s “Highway 61 Revisited” and you’ll know what I mean. PJ Harvey is a diminutive woman with a gigantic, fierce voice. It sounds best here with a simple rolling punching bass line and a wailing screaming guitar. If you like confrontation, you’ll love this album.
