Todd Rundgren reached the mainstream with
the Something/Anything? album originally released in 1972. This double disc set solidified Rundgren’s stature as a premier soft rock balladeer, a moniker he subsequently rejected. It’s too bad because this album represents the singer at the height of his creativity, playing most of the instruments and performing most of the vocals on the majority of the tracks. The album touches on numerous musical styles from power pop to rock to soul to jazz and everything in between. But it doesn't matter what the musical style is or method of recording, the effort is the strongest of his career.
