The Sunflower album shows that
The Beach Boys had much greater depth and maturity than previously thought possible, given their surfer boy image. This was the first album by The
Beach Boys after they split from Capitol Records and it was more of group effort because of Brian Wilson's declining participation in the band. Other members, however, stepped up, including Dennis Wilson, whose gorgeous balled “
Forever” is one of the album’s highlights. Although the album featured songs that had the great harmonies that we were used to, it also had harder, rock-oriented offerings like "
It's About Time" and "
All I Wanna Do” that were equally impressive.
