ALBUM REVIEW
Cat Stevens’ Tea for the Tillerman album is a great disc in the 1970s singer/songwriter tradition of Carole King and James Taylor and is also reminiscent of the work of such British inspirations as Donovan and Syd Barrett. The album is all about a searching for something greater than the self (and probably indicates where Stevens himself was heading religiously). “Father and Son” addresses trying to broach the gap between the generations and “Wild World” warns a lost love about what she’ll find in a troubled world. This is a transcendent album from someone who unfortunately needed more than music to make his own life complete.
