Listening to the Basement Tapes album is like being a fly on the wall at a Dylan recording session. These are tracks never intended to be released that show the lighter side of the visionary Dylan just kicking back and having fun with his friends, The Band, at a bunch of Saugerties, NY jam sessions. What’s most striking about the album is that Dylan proves to have an incredible sense of humor about his life circumstances—recovering from a motorcycle accident and raising young children—and takes you along on the journey of a lifetime. If you want to get a really intimate view of iconic artist, this is a great disc to listen to.
