The Cars album was a classic debut by one of the first bands with a new wave sound to actually make it in the mainstream musical scene.
The Cars expertly blended irony filled Bowie pop and with
AM radio hooks that made tunes like "My Best Friend's Girl" and "
Just What I Needed" Top 40 classics from day one. The remainder of the album consisted of experimental tunes like "
Moving In Stereo" and instant rock and roll classics like "Good Times Roll." Roy Thomas Baker's stark production gave the band a sharper focus, and made the songs seem to leap from your speakers with an invigorating, fresh energy.
