ALBUM REVIEW
First released in 1967, The Doors album was one of rock music’s most famous debuts. Previously, the band had been making a name for itself with intense gigs all around the Los Angeles area, but this was their breakout disc. “Light My Fire” remains the classic blues/jazz/rock concoction that defined acid rock. Other tunes were also belted out by the leather clad Morrison, who exuded sexuality and menace at the same time. (ie. Back Door Man,” "The Crystal Ship" and "I Looked at You"). The Doors, propelled by Morrison, as well as the colorful Manzarek and Kreiger, were the first real rock band to mix two celebrated art forms together, poetry and rock and roll. This first effort remains to this day one of the most brilliant, if not startling, debuts in music history.
