The Genius of Ray Charles album shows Charles at the peak of his emotional and musical energy, coming up with an effort that more than lives up to its name. From big band settings in tunes like “Let the Good Times Roll” and “When Your Love Is Gone” to powerful ballads like “Just For a Thrill” and “Don’t Let the Sun Catch You Crying,’ Charles shows off his fantastic range and tremendous natural talent. When Ray Charles passed away in 2004, everyone was talking about him as the creator of soul music. While this is debatable, there is no debate that he did more than any other artist to develop the form. Kudos for this great album.
