Tom Waits - The Heart of Saturday Night Album

The Heart of Saturday Night album contains some of Tom Waits best early work. Here, Waits diverges from the prototypical California singer/songwriter and becomes a scruffy beat poet, much like a character in Kerouac's classic, On the Road. Back in his early years, Waits was a jazzy, bourbon/blues piano playing sad sack who could put into words what few others could. Highlights include the mournful, dirge-like "San Diego Serenade" and the touchingly sweet "(Looking for) The Heart of Saturday Night. Though he's changed his style over the years, this contains some of the timeless Wait's classics that you feel like playing countless times.
