Jackson Browne - The Pretender Album

ALBUM REVIEW
The Pretender album is one of Jackson Browne’s classic offerings in a prolific career as one of our most poignant songwriters. This CD was recorded right after the suicide of Browne’s partner, lending a soul-searching and melancholy air to most of the songs. Throughout the song cycle, Browne keeps returning to the theme that one must find out what gives his or her life meaning and purpose and live according to one’s own values. The title track seems to be a perfect foreshadowing of the soon to come yuppie revolution. Other highlights include “Hear Come Those Tears Again,” about not getting over a relationship that has ended, and “The Fuse” a tune about doing the right thing.
