The Velvet Underground - The Velvet Underground Album

The Velvet Underground album is the group’s third effort and just might be their finest record. “Pale Blue Eyes," "Jesus," and "Candy Says" are some of the most deftly beautiful songs Lou Reed has ever written and the straight ahead rockers like “What Goes On" and "Beginning to See the Light" may be the finest in the group’s catalog. It’s hard to believe that when this album was released in 1969 it got little critical praise and was not commercially successful either--this is the Velvet Underground's most accessible album, the one that most people first experience and find easiest to enjoy. Even those who are strictly pop fans will love it.
