Elton John - Tumbleweed Connection Album

The Tumbleweed Connection album catches Elton John as a tremendous pop balladeer at the stage in his career before he developed his showy onstage persona. Even though Bernie Taupin wrote the lyrics to most of these songs, John manages to tell his stories and make them feel incredibly personal. Though somewhat neglected because it did not result in any hot pop singles, Tumbleweed Connection sustains a mood, and is adroitly balanced between some pretty hard rockers and magnificent love balladry with a couple of songs that perfectly reflect the quest for answers that reflect rock at its most meaningful--"My Father's Gun" and especially "Where To Now, St. Peter?"
