Pearl Jam - Vitalogy Album

ALBUM REVIEW
In the Vitalogy album, Eddie Vedder and company solidified themselves as the confused voice of a generation. The Seattle-based grunge quintet departed from the style of their previous albums and showed a willingness here to tackle the Big Questions: The opening track, "Spin the Black Circle," is about what makes for healing and in this case it’s the lead singer’s record collection. That tune is somewhat overshadowed by “Immortality,” which some have seen as a reaction to the suicide of Kurt Cobain, "Tremor Christ,” which is reminiscent of Lennon, and “Whipping,” an inspiring anthem for the pro-choice movement. Any band can take on universal issues, but few can make it work to their advantage the way Pearl Jam did in Vitaology.
