Marvin Gaye - What's Going On Album

The powers that be in Motown didn’t want Marvin Gaye to release the “What’s Going On,” album, but it is testimony to the greatness of the musician that he did and that the disc went on to influence virtually every prominent black soul singer into the 21st Century. Gaye co-wrote the songs and produced that album’s nine tracks which all play like a hit single. From “What’s Going On,” a tune devoted to understanding Vietnam to “Inner City Blues,” one of the first songs to honestly and personally deal with urban decay, Gaye made a lasting mark with the What’s Going On album.
