The Southern rock band is best known for their hard rocking anthems, “Sweet Home Alabama,” and “Free Bird.” “Sweet Home Alabama,” was a southern rock gem that appeared on the band’s second album called Second Helping. Although the band was friend with Crosby Stills Nash Young guitarist Neil Young, they took offense to his song “Southern Man,” which trashed the south. Skynrd shot back with their ode to the south in “Sweet Home Alabama.” The single reached # 8 on the US charts in 1974 and continues to be a hit today.
