Mark Ronson has risen to superstardom of late for his work with superstar pop-soul singer Amy Winehouse. However, Ronson proves that his talents extend beyond that of producing records when he offers up his own performances on songs such as Stop Me mp3. The song is in fact a cover of the song Stop Me If You Think You’ve Heard This One Before which was originally a hit for the Smiths in 1987. Ronson has won recognition for adding his own unique touch to his cover versions of songs such as Toxic by Britney Spears and Just by Radiohead. For his part, Ronson’s Stop Me mp3 offers an interesting spin on the classic track. Musically, the song is filled with Ronson’s trademark horn bursts and electronic rock touches making it a blend of retro-soul and modern r&b—it even features a passage from the Supremes’ staple “You Keep Me Hanging On.” Ronson never actually sings on any of his songs, so this track’s vocals are actually provided by an Australian singer named Daniel Merriweather.
