Spyro Gyra is an American jazz band from Buffalo, NY. Gyra formed in the mid 70’s and continue to work today. The group was formed by Jay Beckensten and keyboardist Tom Schuman who continue to play in the band today. They have released over 25 albums with more than 10 million sold. Gyra’s music can be categorized as smooth jazz, R&B, funk, and pop music. The group plays more than 100 times a year and is known for their extraordinary live shows and musicianship. One of their claims to fame is The Weather Channel’s “Local on the 8s” song. Gyra’s single “Perculator” appears on their 1980 album Catching the Sun. This album was the height of Gyra’s smooth jazz era.
