Billy Joel (allegedly) retired from the music world, but that hasn’t stopped him from releasing a new song in time for Christmas…sort of. In an unusual move, Joel wrote “Christmas in Fallujah,” for unknown Long Island singer, Cass Dillon. However, based on the pompous lyrics and cheesy, overblown production, it’s no wonder Joel didn’t want to sing this himself. Headed by Dillon’s faux earnest vocals, the song sounds less like Joel and more like watered down Bon Jovi. As Christmas songs go, this mp3 download may never be a classic, and it’s sentiment as a war protest seems half-hearted. Joel’s “Christmas in Fallujah” is not to be confused with Jefferson Pepper’s more politically charged 2005 song and album of the same name.
