The Anyone Who Had a Heart mp3 is a tribute to the great British superstar Dusty Springfield, and I am happy to say that Shelby Lynne (who herself won a Grammy for Best New Artist in 2001) has the pipes to pull it off. It’s a Norah Jones-style treatment of one of Britain’s great voices, replete with engagingly unusual melodic twists, with a stripped-down treatment that puts the focus almost entirely on the singer and song.

In this era of gadget-heavy studio technology, it’s good to see that Shelby pulls off this stark rendition in style. Supposedly, at a concert in advance of the full album’s release, Shelby apologized for missing some of Dusty’s notes. But even if this tune is not as strong as the original, it still proves that Shelby has both guts and gusto—and that in in of itself is something to be proud of.
