The Suffocate mp3 is a silky, classic-sounding slow jam that should firmly establish J. Holiday as an R&B crooner to be reckoned with. Holiday (nee Nahum Gryms) comes from a Gospel background, with his mother being an ordained minister and his eldest sister having sung backing vocals for Crystal Waters. His breeding almost preordains breakout success.
Interestingly, Holiday also obtains some street cred from the album where you’ll find suffocate. Many of his other songs reflect a toughness born of being raised on the mean streets of Washington DC. For some great variety listen to “Suffocate” and “Bed” and then switch gears with tunes like “Ghetto” and “Thug Commandments.”
