In the That’s Gangsta mp3, Bun B shows that he can get along just fine with out his collaborator, Pimp C, and put forth a cut that both ingenious and innovative rap theater. I think the collaboration with Sean Kingston falls flat, however, as the smooth Kingston seams totally out of place with Bun B’s rhymes. But it’s a four minute song and Kingston is there for about 80 seconds, so you can overlook him.
That’s Gangsta comes off Bun B’s latest album Trill, which keeps the UKG spirit alive despite the death of Pimp C. Bun B managed to get a string of fine collaborators together to bang out some fine beats and top notch rhymes. Using Kingston was a misfire, but we can forgive Bun B’s attempts to cover his backside. He should know that he’s talented enough to go it alone.
