The Raconteurs sound like a whole new band when they turn the volume up on the Consoler of the Lonely mp3. Those who are looking for more of the same from the band’s last album will be pleasantly surprised at the drive and energy of this tune, which sounds like something out of a 70s rock band with a blasting horn section and roaring guitars. This is definitely a move in the right direction.

As you probably already know, The Raconteurs released the Consoler of the Lonely album fairly quickly, eschewing the industry practice of releasing singles and videos ahead of time. Whether this cuts down on the album’s buzz remains to be seen. I, for one, hope it doesn’t because this is a disc well worth listening to.
