The Where You At mp3 is Ray’s attempt at a pill-popping West Coast rap tune. He even brings in The Game to give him some credibility, but the tactic backfires; next to Game, Ray’s swagger sounds almost ridiculous. I don’t pretend to know what trouble Ray has been in, but it’s impossible not to think that while Game was gang-banging in Compton, Ray J was doing script-rehearsal on the set of Moesha.

The problem with Ray has always been that he tries to get street cred when it’s not needed. He’s an R&B singer through and through and he should emphasize this on his albums, rather than moving into the rap arena. He does not need to sing or in some cases even rap about drugs and guns. There’s no need to do that unless you are Akon.
