Listening to the Help Me mp3 you get the feeling that this is a somewhat different Alkaline Trio than the one punk purists first fell in love with. The tune, while dark, has lyrics that are more devilish than anything (i.e. “And a farewell to arms and legs and heads and heart”) and the sound is more beguiling than anything.

As for as the album Help Me is off of—The Agony and the Irony-- it seems like Alkaline Trio have stayed true to their catchy rock style and dark lyrics, but have gone more in the direction of (the now so commonly used) 80s power-pop. This is not to say that they don’t retain some of the energy and edge that had defined them in the past. They are still the same old Alkaline Trio of previous releases. (Ear-worms Guaranteed).
