Released in 2008, Weezer’s sixth studio album, known as the red album due to the cover art, features the special bonus track Miss Sweeney. Miss Sweeney mp3 is an eerie piece, a creepy ballad that alternates between verses that are almost a spoken word exercise with singer/guitarist Rivers Cuomo making advances toward the title character (seemingly an unsuspecting coworker), then apologizing for speaking out of turn. The chorus is just as unnerving, with Cuomo bursting into a sweeping, almost power-ballad chorus of, “I’m waiting until you love me.”

Thematically, perhaps it’s something of a modern update of a song like “Every Breath You Take,” combining Weezer’s usual sound with traces of Queen’s vocals and Radioheads spooky atmospherics. At any rate, there’s never a dull moment with Weezer and Miss Sweeney mp3. This band always manages to put a unique spin on its songs, even something as seemingly mundane as a love song.
