Veteran British rockers Status Quo enjoy a remix of their classic tune Whatever You Want with an assist from the German techno/hardcore outfit Scooter to come up with the Jump That Rock (Whatever You Want) mp3. I’d like to say that this tune is as memorable as when rapper Run DMC remixed Aerosmith’s “Walk this Way” to cross over into the hip hop genre, but unfortunately this remix doesn’t break down any barriers except for those of good taste. Quo has already been called the worst band in the world back in the seventies, so not much as changed except, perhaps for same marketing savvy. The musical brain trust behind this remix certainly believes that it will expose Status Quo to a whole new generation of music lovers, but it remains to be seen what their reaction will be. On the other hand, it’s just a song, not a peace treaty and we should probably cut Quo some slack; after all, they may now be suffering from dementia.
