With the Right Now (Na Na Na) mp3 Akon continues to valiantly defend his title of the King of Hardcore R&B. The tune isn’t as raunchy as some of his others, but Right Now still has sex on the brain which, if you’re Akon, is what’s always on your brain. Still, the hook and the vocals resonate and you would have to say that this is a great follow-up to other Akon hits like “I Wanna Love You” and “Smack That.” If I had to lay odds, I’d say “Right Now” won’t be as big a hit, only because it’s derivative, but for R&B fans who are getting their first introduction to Akon, you might find that there’s more to soul music than just smooching and holding hands. Plus, it introduces an international flavor that R&B was simply lacking before Akon came along. And he also incorporates the soul that a long line of African-American R&B artists are known for. All in all, you can’t go wrong with Akon, even if he sometimes crosses the border into tastelessness.
