Everyone’s favorite Scottish dance-rock outfit is finally back. The latest from Franz Ferdinand, No You Girls, comes from the band’s 2009 effort, Tonight: Franz Ferdinand. After a four-year gap between albums (during which singer/guitarist Alex Kapranos took an unexpected turn as a food journalist), the No You Girls mp3 will be a treat for fans that have missed the band’s faux snotty art-rock and cheeky lyrical turns. The album’s initial single, Ulysses, was met with lukewarm reviews, but the No You Girls download is finding a warmer reception among listeners and critics. The band’s centerpiece, Kapranos’s cool vocal delivery sounds just as charmingly disinterested as ever (amazing what a European accent will do for a guy). The band’s stuttering pseudo-disco riffs walk the line between indie-irony and unapologetic pop with a chorus hook so sticky it’s easy to forgive the candy-coated production.
