With the release of her 2006 debut, Alright, Still, Lily Allen quickly became a popstar in the UK thanks to her cheeky lyrics, outspoken nature and unfortunate knack for turning up in the tabloids. Allen’s 2009 follow-up, It’s Not Me, It’s You, aims to prove that she’s more than just a tabloid star. A single from that album, Not Fair finds the starlet lamenting that while her boyfriend treats her well, things aren’t so perfect in the bedroom. The video for Lily Allen Not Fair finds the lippy Brit set in an odd, retro Nashville variety show hosted by the late Porter Wagoner, and it actually sort of fits the quirky musical vibe of the song. Blending a hyperactive, galloping country bassline with Allen’s fast, almost spoken vocals, the Not Fair mp3 is almost begging for some sort of wild dance remix, but we hope that doesn’t happen. As it is, the Not Fair download currently available is just slightly off-center pop number, and the unexpected blend of musical styles shows that Allen has a keen way with smart (and sometimes rather dirty) lyrics as well as with smart melodies.
