Here it’s arranged as more of a pop song than a country number, which is what it appears Kara DioGuardi intended when penning it. Despite the many clichés about holding your ground and keeping on despite seemingly insurmountable odds, Allen manages to give it is own distinctive take, which fans can’t help but appreciate. Although he misses some of the high notes, this version of the tune, which was written specifically for the American Idol finalists, admirably delivers the message the songwriters had in mind. Maybe this wasn’t the best tune for a boy-next-door type to undertake, but you’ve got to admire Allen’s spunkiness when you listen to a free No Boundaries mp3. Allen takes a hackneyed-theme and prosaic lyrics and makes them seem believable.
