Gloria Gaynor is an American disco singer from Newark, New Jersey who came to fame in the 70’s. Gloria Gaynor was one of the main reasons disco became a worldwide phenomenon. Gaynor’s most famous single has been “I Will Survive,” written by Freddie Perren and Dino Fekaris in October 1978. The song has been widely popular for its feminist lyrics of strength and perseverance after a hardship. The song easily reached the Billboard Hot 100 and reached number one in the UK. “I Will Survive,” received the Grammy Award for Best Disco Recording in 1980.

Akon is a Senegalese hip hop rapper and record producer who came on the scene in 2004. Akon came on the scene after hitting it big with his debut album Trouble and singles such as “Locked Up.” Akon has appeared on over 145 singles and has been credited with 21 Billboard Hot 100 songs. Akon’s song “Lonely,” appeared on his debut album Trouble. “Trouble” is a sped-up sample of Bobby Vinton’s “Mr.Lonely,” chimed in for the chorus. “Lonely,” reached number 1 in the UK, Germany and Australia.
