James Brown’s Children Contest Will | ||||||||||||

| (EZ-Tracks) - Five of James Brown’s children are claiming that the late soul singer’s will should be invalidated because his advisors exerted undue influence on Brown, getting him to leave his money to charitable trusts that the advisors would profit from, according to a recent Associated Press report. The children were largely excluded from the financial portion of the will, which leaves the bulk of Brown’s money to trusts set up to educate his grandchildren and needy kids. Atlanta attorney Louis Levenson told the AP that the children discovered earlier wills drafted by their father that cast doubt on whether he truly wanted to leave his estate to charity. “There was sporadic indication that Mr. Brown intended to benefit some charities, but the circumstances surrounding the making of these documents have always been clouded in mystery," Levenson was quoted as saying. Most of Brown's estate, including his Beech Island home and rights to his image, name and music, would go to the James Brown "I Feel Good" Trust for the education of needy children in South Carolina and Georgia, as well as to a family trust to educate his grandchildren younger than 35, according to the AP. Exactly how much money is in the Godfather of Soul’s estate is unknown, but Forbes reported he made $5 million in 2005. | ||||||||||||
